Swim team completes last AUS meet in second place

HALIFAX, N.S. - The Axewomen and Axemen swim teams completed the last meet of the AUS regular season at Dalhousie this past weekend. The meet was originally a two day – 1 session per day meet but due to inclement weather, the two sessions were combined into one day.

Both teams finished second against their respective competition, trailing the host Dalhousie Tigers.

"Our team knew this weekend would be tough based on the workload we had coming in. We didn't want to show our cards yet. We are saving the best for last. With 3 weeks to go the team will bear down and try to get the last bit of max training in before we start our taper. Hopefully all the hard work will pay off when it really counts," noted Acadia head coach Gary MacDonald.

Brett Liem led the team with two wins and three second place finishes. Kelsea Vessey led the Axewomen with a second place finish in the 200m freestyle relay and two third place finishes in the 100m butterfly and 400m freestyle.

With AUS championships just around the corner, the team came into the meet very tired, however the last meet of the season provided much needed competition. Top performances were rare.

The team will now prepare for the AUS championship weekend from February 8 to 10 hosted  by the Dalhousie Tigers.
