Axemen finish 2nd, Axewomen 4th at AUS Championship

Halifax, N.S. - After three days of competition at the 2022 Subway AUS Swimming Championships, the Axemen finished the meet in second place with 728 points behind the Dalhousie Tigers with 1011 points, while the Axewomen finished the meet in fourth place with 474.5 points behind the Tigers with 1073 points, Memorial University with 576 points, and UNB with 476 points. Between the Axemen and Axewomen teams over the three days of competition Acadia won a total of 28 medals.

Annie Ingo led the charge for Acadia heading into day three in the women's 800 metre freestyle in the prelim session, finishing seventh in 9:43.45. Teammates Gina Vaillancourt and Victoria Flowerday finished 12th in 10:22.78 and 14th in 10:39.17 respectively. 

Acadia's Cameron Ingo was sixth in the men's 1500 metre freestyle in 17:23.49. Swimming in the prelim session, Joshua Elsworth was 11th in 18:17.93 and Sean Vibert finished 11th in 18:50.71.

Sarah MacDougall, Kali Lancaster, and Ally Bennett were first off the blocks for Acadia heading into day three's finals session in the women's 50 metre breaststroke. MacDougall was fifth in 35.32 while Lancaster was sixth in 35.66 and Bennett 12th in 38.22. 

Gordon Shortt won the gold medal in the men's race in 29.63 for his third breaststroke medal of the meet. Teammates Aubrey Landry and Elyott Chang were fifth and sixth in 30.10 and 30.34 respectively. 

Acadia's Grace Earle earned the silver medal in the women's 200 metre backstroke in 2:19.63, while teammate Jessica Pelletier was 12th in 2:30.54. 

In the men's 200 metre backstroke, Aaron Day won the bronze medal for Acadia in 208.46. 

Grace Earle was Acadia's top placement in the women's 100 metre freestyle with 10th in 100.61, while Lia Lancaster was 11th in 100.77 and Elizabeth Morrison was 15th in 1:01.55. 

In the men's race, Dean Sangster earned the silver medal in 50.73 while teammate Shane Kenny took the bronze in 51.16. Bo Stokesbury-Price was fourth in 51.68, Daeton Pitre was ninth in 52.85, and Cameron Ingo was16th in 59.22. 

Cali Bruce finished in fourth place for Acadia in the women's 200 metre Individual Medley in 2:31.38. Teammate Sarah MacDougall was eighth in 2:34.25. 

In the men's event, Elyott Chang earned a bronze medal in 2:08.79 while Gordon Shortt was fifth in 2:11.68. 

The 400 metre medley relay concluded the evening's finals and the competition. The Acadia Axewomen's team of Jessica Pelletier, Kali Lancaster, Kassidy Hamilton, and Grace Earle took the silver in 4:23.87 for the Axewomen's second podium of the evening.

The men's silver medal went to the Axemen's team of Dean Sangster, Gordon Shortt, Shane Kenny, and Bo Stokesbury-Price in 3:45.81, the Axemen's third relay podium.

Acadia Swimming will next be back in the competition pool March 24th-26th for the U-Sports Swimming Championships at Université Laval.
