Acadia swimmers open season at Day 1 of Jack Scholz Invitational

WOLFVILLE - The opening day of the 14th Jack Scholz AUS Invitational wrapped up with the Dalhousie Tigers in the lead followed by the Acadia Axewomen and Axemen.

The session began with the 200m butterfly, where Gordon Short secured third with rookie Nate Thompson close behind.

Ella Collin won the 50m breast by a wide margin. Teammates Kali Lancaster and Brigitte Ryan finished fourth and fifth respectively.

In the 100m free, Lucas Mazier came second with a best time of 53.84. David Harvie began his rookie season strong in a 53.91 for a fourth-place finish.

Sophie Rooney finished her 200m IM in clear water to claim first place.

Rookie Nate Thompson finished second in the 200m IM.

Ben Henger returned after a three-year hiatus from swimming to claim third in the 100 back. Teammates Dawood and Earle finished fourth and sixth respectively.

Rooney won her second event of the session during the 50m butterfly. Sarah Bennett finished third in 29.52.

In the men's 50m butterfly, Gordon Shortt finished third and Marcus Vaillancourt finished sixth.

The session concluded with the 200m medley relay. The Axewomen A team (G. Earle, E. Collins, S. Rooney, E. Hamlyn) swam a fantastic race against Dalhousie to claim gold.
