Axewomen lead women's standings after Day 1 of Jack Scholz
WOLFVILLE – The Dalhousie Tigers secured a commanding lead on the opening day of the Jack Scholz Invitational swim meet, with the Tigers posting a combined total of 716.5 points across men's and women's events on Saturday.
Acadia followed in second place in the overall team standings with 586 points, while the Memorial Sea-Hawks sit third with 303.5.
In the women's team standings, Acadia leads with 353 points, closely followed by Dalhousie with 331 points. Memorial rounds out the top three with 136 points.
On the men's side, Dalhousie took the top spot with 385.5 points, ahead of Acadia's 233 and Memorial's 167.5.
Several swimmers achieved multiple podium finishes in individual events, emerging as top performers of the day.
Acadia's Ella Collins captured two gold medals, finishing first in both the 50-metre breaststroke with a time of 32.43 seconds and the 200-metre breaststroke in 2:37.18. Teammate Cassidy Karrel also had a strong showing, placing second in the 100-metre freestyle in 58.92 seconds and earning a third-place finish in the 400-metre freestyle with a time of 4:35.86.
Memorial's Chris Weeks led the Sea-Hawks men's team with two first-place finishes, clocking in at 50.30 seconds in the 100-metre freestyle and 24.14 seconds in the 50-metre butterfly. Dalhousie's Isaac Bahler also notched multiple wins, claiming the men's 200-metre butterfly in 2:08.72 and contributing to Dalhousie's relay success.
The competition will resume on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Acadia Pool with action also available on AUS TV.
