Axewomen win women's event at Jack Scholz meet, Acadia finishes second overall
WOLFVILLE – The final day of the Jack Scholz Invitational saw Dalhousie University secure first place in the overall team standings, closing the meet with 1,425.5 points at the Acadia Pool on Sunday.
Acadia finished second overall with 1,190 points, while the Memorial Sea-Hawks placed third with 562.5 points.
In the women's division, Acadia claimed first with a score of 724 points, outperforming Dalhousie's 661. Memorial took third place with 243 points. Dalhousie led the men's standings with 764.5 points, followed by Acadia with 466, and Memorial with 319.5.
The meet saw multiple standout performances across all teams.
For Acadia, Chloe Popp excelled with top-three finishes in both the 100-metre breaststroke and the 400-metre individual medley. Cassidy Karrel also delivered strong results, winning the 200-metre freestyle and placing first in the 50-metre freestyle. Sophie Rooney had a strong meet individually, finishing first in the 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke and 200m backstroke events, plus a second place in the 50m butterfly. Nate Thompson contributed with a second-place finish in the 200-metre freestyle and another second in the 100-metre butterfly, while David Harvie won the men's 200-metre freestyle and placed third in the 800-metre freestyle.
Dalhousie's Alexia Morgans was also a double podium finisher, claiming first in the 800-metre freestyle and the 400-metre individual medley. Teammate Logan Sparkes secured the top spot in the men's 800-metre freestyle and added another win in the 400-metre individual medley.
Memorial's Chris Weeks performed well with victories in the men's 100-metre butterfly and the 50-metre freestyle.
The next meet on the AUS invitational schedule is the Kemp-Fry at Dalhousie from November 22-24, which will conclude the fall semester competitions.
