UQAM and Axewomen split weekend exhibition

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - Camille Michaud's 24 points, led UQAM to a win against the Acadia Axewomen – their second meeting of the weekend.

Kristy Moore led the Axewomen with 20 points while Abby Duinker added 15 points and 8 boards. First year forward Alexandra Berry added 13 points and 7 rebounds for the losing cause.

Down early 2-12,  the Axewomen rallied back on a 15-0 run to take a 17-12 lead, led by a quick seven points from senior guard Kristy Moore. The first quarter ended with a 19-17 advantage.

In the second frame, Abby Duinker grabbed an offensive board, hit a shot from behind the arc and slipped past the UQAM defense for the layup, pushing Acadia to a 26-25 lead. A late quarter slip saw the Axewomen down 28-33 at the half.

Turnovers plagued Acadia's first half, committing 23 while UQAM only nine.

Despite a strong start to the second half, Acadia found themselves down by 15 heading into the final frame.

In the fourth quarter, the Axewomen worked themselves into a bonus situation to try to close the gap. Acadia fought back at the free throw line, but in the end they couldn't overcome strong defense from the Citadins and fell 70-79.

Citadin Camille Michaud netted a team high 24 points while teammate Queteline Celestin added 21.  For the third game in a row, Kristy Moore scored an Acadia high 20 points. Senior forward Abbey Duinker, playing on her old high school court, added 15 points and rookie post Alexandra Berry posted an early career high of 13 points and 7 rebounds.

The Axewomen will take a week off and head to PEI on October 18th for the Mickey Place Tournament hosted by UPEI.
