WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Acadia Axewomen never gave up a lead to the Saint Mary's Huskies for 40 minutes in an 82-64 win on Thursday night.

The Axewomen doubled the Huskies in the first quarter, putting up 28 to their 14. Twelve of Acadia's points came from Haley MacDonald (Port Williams, N.S.), who shot five for six from the field, including two for two from three-point arc.

MacDonald finished with a game-high 21 points and added four assists and three rebounds.

Acadia as a team shot well in the first, making 11 of 15 field goal attempts.

Though the Axewomen did not score as many in the second, they maintained a sizeable lead throughout the quarter, posting a 42-27 advantage over the Huskies.

Estelle Eduardo (Villeurbanne, France) lead her team at half with 10 points on three for five from the field.

The Axewomen opened the second half with an 8-0 run, but the Huskies responded well with a 21 point third quarter, though they still were behind by 16, as Acadia closed out the third frame with 64 points.

By the fourth quarter, Acadia had established a somewhat impenetrable lead that pushed to as much as 20 points throughout the final period.

The Axewomen netted 31 points off of turnovers and out-rebounded the Huskies 36-25.

Lanae Adams, who was named the Axewomen's Subway Player of the Game, pointed out that her success tonight was based on the teamwork in finding the open player. Adams had 10 points and 10 rebounds, plus 3 steals and 2 assists.

"I feel like our style of basketball is really a style where we are moving the ball around with everybody penetrating and kicking it out for open threes. We just look to find each other and whoever is hot, hopefully we find them and work together and that's what has been working," noted Adams after the game.

Axewoman Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, N.S.) had another strong game with 19 points, while teammate Sarsha Cadle (Melbourne, Australia) pulled down seven rebounds and added 12 points to the winning cause.

Alaina McMillan (Brantford, Ont.), who was named the Huskies' Player of the Game, posted a team high 15 points along with dishing out seven assists.

The Axewomen made 10 of their 20 attempted threes, giving them a huge edge in this matchup. The Huskies managed 9 threes from 30 attempts.

The Huskies drop to 1-12 on the season, while the Axewomen improve to 10-3.

Both teams will meet again this Saturday night on Stu Aberdeen Court in Wolfville, beginning at 6:00 pm.
