CHARLOTTETOWN — The UPEI Panthers edged the Acadia Axewomen 94-90 in a double-overtime thriller Friday night in Atlantic University Sport women's basketball action.
UPEI took an early lead in the first quarter, but Acadia battled back to keep it close. Acadia's top scorers included Lisa Bolander, who netted 22 points, and Bianca Helmig, who added 17 points. Sarah Delorey contributed a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Lauren Rainford led the way for UPEI with 35 points, while Abby Miller posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Grace Lancaster chipped in with 13 points.
UPEI's resilient offence ultimately secured the win before 236 spectators at home.
The two teams meet again Saturday in Charlottetown at 2 p.m. to wrap up the weekend.
