WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Axewomen punched their ticket to the AUS women's rugby finals and a trip to the CIS Championship hosted in Kingston, Ont. by Queen's University November 5th to 8th, with a convincing 46-10 win over the visiting UPEI Panthers in the AUS Semi-Final game.
Senior Maddie MacKenzie (Peterborough, Ont.), who added three trys to the Axewomen's offensive output today, scored the first of eight Acadia trys.
Subway Player of the Game Sarah Roblin (Belleville, Ont.), added a second try 17 minutes into the match, her first of two trys.
Rachel Chapman added a third try that was converted by Jenny Matheson (Halifax, N.S.) to give Acadia a 17-0 lead with 18 minutes remaining in the opening half.
Panther Amy Andrews (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) broke the Acadia goose-egg with a penalty goal to close the gap by three. Veronique Russell (Markham, Ont.) scored the final Acadia try of the first half that was converted by Jenny Matheson to give Acadia a 24-3 halftime lead.
The second half showcased more scoring by the Axewomen. Maddie MacKenzie added two more trys along with teammate Jenny Matheson who added one before the Panthers scored their first and only try of the game. Alysha Corrigan (Sherwood, P.E.I.) scored a try at the 65 minute mark and Amy Andrews converted the try to close the Acadia lead to 41-10.
Roblin added her second try of the day to give Acadia a 46-10 win over the UPEI Panthers. Acadia will now prepare for the AUS Championship game on Friday, October 30 at 7:00 pm in Antigonish, N.S. against the host StFX X-Women
The Axewomen will also prepare to travel to the CIS Championships weekend at Queen's University since two AUS teams will be amongst eight CIS teams completing for the National Championship.
