WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Axewomen rugby team improve to 3-1 with their second win against the Saint Mary's Huskies this season.
Fifth-year wing Maddie MacKenzie posted four tries, three of which came in the closing minutes of the second half.
Former UPEI Panther Alysha Corrigan scored in the opening minute of the game on long 20+ metre run across the goal line for the first of 12 Axewomen tries.
Not until nearly 27 minutes later did the Axewomen posted another try. Sarah Boudreau started a wave of tries the followed.
Within the last 12 minutes of the opening half, three additional tries to Boudreau's were scored by MacKenzie, and second year Axewomen Laura Pfleiderer and Emilie Merilainen.
The Huskies trailed Acadia 27-0 at the half.
First year prop Valerie Wideski scored her first try of the season that was converted by Laura Pfleiderer in the opening two minutes of the second half.
Madison Firth, Sarah Roblin added two tries (not converted) to give the Axeowmen a commanding 44-0 lead with 30 minutes remaining in the game.
MacKenzie's last three tries game in the last 17 minutes of the match. Keisha Kane split the second last and last MacKenzie tries to give the host Axewomen a 66-0 win over the winless Huskies.
Acadia visits UPEI next Saturday afternoon, while Saint Mary's hosts the U SPORTS No. 2 StFX X-Women this coming Wednesday night.
