Queen's tops Acadia in national quarterfinal
The Queen's Gaels dominated from start to finish, overpowering the Acadia Axewomen 68-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Cavendish Farms U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship.
Queen's opened the scoring just eight minutes into the game with a try from Siobhann Sheerin, followed by a successful conversion from Lizzie Gibson to take an early 7-0 lead. The Gaels quickly extended their advantage, with Sarah Hardy and Rachel Cullen adding back-to-back tries, each followed by conversions from Gibson, pushing the lead to 21-0 within the first 18 minutes.
Queen's continued their relentless attack, adding four more tries before halftime, including a second from Cullen and a powerful finish by Maxie Grant. Gibson's precision on conversions kept the Gaels comfortably ahead at 42-0 going into the break.
In the second half, Queen's kept the momentum. Hardy notched her second try of the game in the 53rd minute, with additional tries from Grant and Eva Johnston, bringing the final score to a commanding 68-0. Queen's maintained 72% possession in the half, stifling any potential Acadia offense.
With this win, Queen's advances to face the Victoria Vikes in the semifinals on Friday, while Acadia faces Laval.
