WOLFVILLE, N.S. - Despite a 1-0 loss to the Dalhousie Tigers the day before, the Axewomen soccer team bounced back in their game today against the UNB Varsity Reds. 

Kinsella Noseworthy-Smith dribbled past the Varsity Reds defence and slipped the ball across the 6-yard box that found the foot of Newfoundland native Meghan Earle and the Axewomen went up 1-0 twenty-six minutes into the first half. 

Only 6 minutes later, the Axewomen added a second marker from Katie Ross on a free kick 20 yards out. 

After the second goal the Varsity Reds put the pressure on for the remainder of the half. The Axewomen went into the half up 2-0 but knew it wasn't enough and they had to keep pushing for more goals. Acadia's Alana Fairfax netted a third goal 15 minutes into second half which gave the Axewomen a bit of breathing room. With 8 minutes remaining Katie Ross put the Axewomen up by 4 with her second of the game. 

AUS Subway player of the Game, Katie Ross was modest about her two goal game. "After a hard loss yesterday the team was able to bounce back and get a crucial win. Overall it was a great team effort, and as a group we are confident we can keep getting results if we continue to play the way we know we can." Ross currently is third in AUS scoring with three goals.

Head Coach Amit Batra was positive on the win and wants to continue the positive development. "Today was just about moving the yardsticks forward. We just want to keep moving in the right direction and I feel we are. Today was also soccer day in Wolfville as planned by Len Hawley and sponsored by Hennigar's. So it was nice to have a good game with such great home town support.  I think that it's always difficult to have such a long road trip as our opponents had so we wanted to attack early and we accomplished that.  We're looking to keep working in training to prepare for MUN next weekend".

The Axewomen outshot the Varsity Reds 12-3 and Keeper Carrie Wood recorded her 4th shutout of the season. The win improves Acadia's record to 3-2-1, good enough for third place in the AUS standings - trailing Memorial by two points. The Axewomen head to Newfoundland this Friday to face the Memorial Sea Hawks in games on both Saturday and Sunday.
