Harris leads Axewomen with 2 goals in a 3-0 win over Mounties

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Two goals by midfielder Madyson Harris (Wolfville, N.S.) helped the soccer Axewomen pick up a 3-0 win over the visiting Mount Allison Mounties on Homecoming weekend.

Harris kicked off the three-point win at the nine-minute mark when Jayden Boudreau (Halifax, N.S.) fed Harris an easy pass for the left-footed kick off the far right post within the 18-yard box.

Harris added her second goal came off a corner kick by Meghan Johnston (Dartmouth, N.S.) in the 53rd minute to give the Axewomen a 2-0 lead.

Johnston would add her second assist of the game on a cross that was headed and rebounded into the net by Grace Longley (Bedford, N.S.) who flew to the loose ball within the crease.

"They are big players of the game and we couldn't do without them. They are strong and always win the 1-v-1 battles and it's great to have them back there," noted Harris when asked about how the midfield could be part of the offensive game due to a strong group of defenders.

Axewomen keeper Milena Ramirez (Wolfville, N.S.) was tested with one shot - a testament to the strong work by Acadia's defenders. Acadia posted 29 shots – 16 shots on goal with Sophie Austin (Kanata, Ont.) making 13 saves in 90 minutes of play.

The Axewomen improve to 5-2-1 and currently sit third in the AUS standings behind Dalhousie and Cape Breton. Acadia travels to Saint Mary's on Sunday at 1:00 pm. Mount Allison will continue their hunt for their first win of the season as they drop to 0-7-1 and host Memorial on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
