Marin Aucoin commits to Axewomen soccer for upcoming season

WOLFVILLE – The Axewomen soccer program will have a familiar face joining them on the pitch in 2024 with the commitment of Marin Aucoin, sister of current Axewoman Abbey Aucoin.

A 5’7 central defender, she joins Acadia via United Dartmouth Football Club (UDFC).

“Marin is a very tidy player who can slow the game down and read the danger early to cut out opponent attacks,” said head coach Amit Batra. “She’s a tough tackler and strong in the air and will be a great addition as a central defender who has the versatility to play in the midfield as well due to her excellent passing range and understanding of the game. Marin brings a wealth of youth experience at club and provincial level as well as from her experiences with the Whitecaps/REX programs and she’ll be a welcome addition to our program.”

In 2023, as team captain she finished the season with eight goals, helping her team to a 14-2-2 record in Nova Scotia Soccer League (NSSL) action to finish atop the standings. They advanced to the league final, unfortunately falling 1-0 to Suburban FC. Heading into the 2024 season, she will lace up with the UDFC senior team to compete in the NSSL.

Alongside her time with UDFC, she also spent 2021-24 with Whitecaps REX, twice attending the Whitecaps combine in Vancouver.

As a high school player, she was the team captain during her senior year, won the women’s soccer coaches award in Grade 11 and was the Dartmouth High School rookie of the year in Grade 10.

“I am very excited to commit to Acadia University and I can’t wait to continue both my athletic and academic journeys as an Axewoman,” said Marin. “Playing at the university level has been a goal of mine for a long time and being able to do so at Acadia as a member of such a successful program is even better. I can’t wait to get started.

Marin will be working towards a biology degree while attending Acadia.
