Sea-Hawks hand Axewomen first loss of 2024

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – A penalty kick in the fourth minute by Emma Halliday (St. John's, NL) lifted Memorial University to a 1-0 victory over Acadia University in AUS women's soccer action Saturday at Raymond Field in front of 285 fans.

Acadia dominated offensively with 23 shots to Memorial's six, but the Sea-Hawks' strong defensive effort, led by goalkeeper Leana Claude (Grenchen, SUI), secured the win. Claude recorded seven saves, keeping the Axewomen off the scoreboard. Milena Ramirez (Wolfville, NS) made one save in the loss.

The match was physical, with 17 fouls called. Acadia's Riley Bonadie (Ottawa, ON) and Memorial's Jen Milligan (Strathroy, ON) received yellow cards.

The players of the game were Mady Harris (Harmony, NS) for Acadia and Zoe Rowe (Conception Bay South, NL) for Memorial.

With the win, Memorial improves to 2-3-0, while Acadia falls to 3-1-1. 

Acadia travels to Saint Mary's on Thursday night to face the Huskies in their next match, while Memorial faces Dalhousie on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. to wrap up their weekend.
