Axewomen learn from Ontario preseason trip

KINGSTON - The Acadia Axewomen may not have walked away with what is traditionally considered a positive result from their early preseason trip to Ontario, but know they have started the foundation of what they expect to be a positive season.

"Exhibition serves many purposes; I feel like we checked numerous boxes, resulting in a positive experience for our team," said head coach Michelle Wood. "I'm looking forward to getting back into the gym to focus on some things that came through in some of our matches. The goal for this year will be to continuously layer and build until March. That is when we are hoping to be our most complete version of Acadia women's volleyball."

The Axewomen opened their weekend with a 3-0 (19-25, 19-25, 20-25) loss to the host Queen's Gaels.

They followed with a narrow 3-2 (16-25, 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 15-17) loss to the TMU Bold. In the match, Jenna Lake led all players with 18.5 points, with both middle blockers being key contributers. Erica Fisher finished with 18 points, six from blocks, while Olivia Haley also had 18 points. Setter Charlie Dean ran the offence in the match, keepking all hitters involved.

To wrap up the weekend they faced McGill, falling 3-0 (20-25, 18-25, 19-25). Wesley-Ann Bailey had a team high efficiency of .294, with the two left sides Lake and Jenna Guy hitting for .217 and .214 respectively.

Acadia opens their AUS season at home on Friday, Oct. 27 following their remaining scrimmages and exhibition matches. First serve is 7 p.m.
