Axewomen finish 9 pts out of 3rd place in Moncton

MONCTON, N.B. - The Axewomen cross country team completed their second meet of the 2015 season with an overall finish of fourth place, only nine points out from the third place UNB Varsity Reds.

Top runner for the Axewomen was veteran Emily Annand. Annand completed the 5km course with a time of 26:07.50 - 34th overall and 28th amongst AUS runners. Rookie Chrissy Smith posted a 29th place amongst AUS runners with a time of 26:09.60.

Head coach Ralph Williams is confident that the team can make the all important move up to third place with great performances by all runners this coming weekend. "We are consistently making improvements and the team is on board to always giving their best. Some of our top runners are not 100% but we are striving to be ready for the AUS Championships in October. Injuries and sickness have not allowed us to be 100% at the last two meets", said Williams.

The Axewomen will prepare for the AUS Championships hosted by St. Thomas University on Sat. Oct 31. Seven runners will be eligible to run in the championship including Emily Annand, Sara Drisdelle, Holly McCulloch, Laura Parsons, Chrissy Smith, Ellen Taggart and Rachael Weagle. Alternates include Jenna Maclean and Rachel Watts.
