Axewomen finish 3rd overall, Higgins takes 2nd place

ANTIGONISH, N.S. - The Acadia Axewomen cross country team finished third in the women's divisional team standings at the StFX Cross Country Invitational, with an overall score of 51.

In the 6 km race, senior Madalyn Higgins, who "gave a gutsy race" according to team coach Ralph Williams, finished in a close second overall with a time of 22:02. Coach Williams says: "That is a very good showing considering it's her first race of the season!"

The rest of the team placed with a "great showing for their first race of the season", according to coach Williams.

Nicole Skinner placed twelfth overall with a time of 23:24. Jessie Armstrong placed thirteenth overall with a time of 23:32, Sarah Lavallee's fifteenth place finish at 23:35, Michelle Macdonald placed twentieth with a time of 24:05, Sophie Knowles placed twenty-third with a time of 24:15, Lindsay Myles placed twenty-seventh with a time of 24:47, and Kelsey Crouse placed thirty-first with a time of 25:22.

Coach Williams says that "The Acadia team is looking forward to competing on their home course" on October 5th at Noon at Hennigar's Orchard behind their Farmers Market. Free admission to all. The race is also an open race and registration will be available online in the coming days.
