Axewomen finish fifth at Acadia Invitational to open season
The Acadia Axewomen delivered a solid performance at the 2024 Acadia Invitational, hosted at Hennigar's Farm.
Ella Campbell was the top finisher for Acadia, placing 28th overall with a time of 34:47. Close behind her was Paris Buchanan, who finished 29th at 34:51. Grace Earle crossed the line in 33rd place with a time of 35:43, followed by Maggie Graves, who secured 36th place at 36:06. Ava Joseph rounded out Acadia's top five, finishing 43rd with a time of 37:46. Amanda Daniels also contributed with a 46th-place finish in 38:10.
In the team standings, Acadia finished in fifth place with a total score of 121 points and an average time of 35:50. Their combined effort placed them behind Moncton Aigles Bleues, who finished fourth with 106 points, and the top three teams.
Individually, the top three finishers were Sophie Black from Moncton Aigles Bleues, who won the race with a time of 31:47, followed closely by StFX's Poppy Moon and Caroline Ash, both finishing at 31:53.
In the team competition, StFX dominated with 23 points, thanks to five runners finishing in the top seven. Dalhousie Tigers claimed second place with 66 points, led by Breanna Sandluck's eighth-place finish. The UPEI Panthers took third with 76 points, with Anna Harris placing fourth overall.
While Acadia didn't break into the top team spots, they showed depth and determination, gaining valuable experience as they progress through the season.
The next meet on the cross country calendar is September 21 at StFX.
