Soccer Axemen comeback to tie game vs Moncton

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Soccer Axemen tried to follow in the steps of the Axewomen, who edged Moncton 2-1 in earlier action Friday evening, but fell short despite hard-fought efforts the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Moncton opened up the scoring nine minutes in when a corner kick by Maxime Daigle set up Ahmed Abdul-Rahman perfectly to tip the ball past Acadia keeper Eric McGarry.

Acadia tied it at one midway through the half when a Moncton foul led to a free kick that Andrew Synder decisively rerouted to the back of the net.

Shortly after, Moncton's Kouame Ouattara worked his way though the 18 yard box and slipped a low shot through McGarry's fingers, taking the 2-1 lead into the second half.

The second half was a see-saw battle between both teams until midway through the last half, rookie striker Corey Cadeau shot the ball out front and as a Moncton defender attempted to clear the ball, his deflection wound up in the back of the net for the "own goal". Cadea was credited the goal.

The remainder of the second half, neither team was able to gain the advantage. Despite two Moncton players receiving red cards resulting in ejections, Acadia could not capitalize on the short staffted Aigles Bleus and the result was a 2-2 draw at the end of official tim.

Players of the game were Samuele Acca for the Aigles Bleus and second year defnder Andrew Snyder for the Axemen.

The Axemen return to the pitch Sunday afternoon at 3pm as they host the StFX X-Men who are tied with Acadia with a 4-3-3. Moncton returns home to host Cape Breton on Sunday.
