WOLFVILLE — The STFX X-Women and the Acadia Axewomen battled to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women's soccer action at Raymond Field.
A crowd of 425 watched Acadia take the lead in the seventh minute when Alli Kelly (Halifax, NS) scored, assisted by Abbey Aucoin (Dartmouth, NS).
STFX equalized early in the second half, with Meghan Cole (Moncton, NB) finding the back of the net in the 47th minute, off a pass from Emma Steen (Stittsville, ON).
Acadia outshot StFX 19-3, with 11 shots on target compared to StFX's one. X-Women goalkeeper Christina Gentile (Laval, QC) made 10 saves to keep her team in the match. Milena Ramirez (Wolfville, NS) was in goal for the Axewomen, facing only one shot on goal.
The game was physical, with 18 fouls called—10 against StFX and eight against Acadia. Yellow cards were issued to StFX's Steen and Acadia's Cheyenne Bower.
Acadia (4-1-2) now hosts the UNB REDS (6-1-0) on Friday night at Raymond Field, while STFX (3-2-1) hosts Saint Mary's (3-4-1) on Saturday and Memorial (2-3-1) on Sunday in Antigonish.
Acadia will wrap up their weekend on the road against UPEI (1-4-2) on Sunday.
