WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Acadia University blanked UPEI 2-0 in an Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women's soccer match Friday, as part of the Axewomen's homecoming weekend celebrations.
Acadia (6-3-3) capitalized in the second half after a scoreless opening 45 minutes. Abby Girard broke the deadlock in the 54th minute, followed by Riley Bonadie's quick strike a minute later, assisted by Lauren Jodrey.
Acadia outshot UPEI 32-7, with Milena Ramirez making three saves to earn the shutout. UPEI goalkeeper Claudia Mazzei stopped 10 shots but allowed two goals as her team fell to 1-7-3 on the season.
The Axewomen, who honoured their graduating seniors before the match, are heading into the AUS playoffs. UPEI will conclude its season Saturday against Dalhousie.
