McKinnon commits to Axewomen soccer program
WOLFVILLE — The Axewomen soccer program is excited to add Hannah McKinnon, a standout centre back from Timberlea, N.S. McKinnon brings extensive experience and accolades as she begins her first year of eligibility while pursuing a degree in kinesiology.
McKinnon’s soccer career has been marked by exceptional achievements. Most recently, she served as the team captain for Halifax County United U17AAA, leading the team to a national bronze medal and a provincial league title in 2024. She also captained her high school team at Bay View High School in Tantallon, N.S., earning consecutive leadership roles in Grades 11 and 12.
Her experience includes competing with Team Nova Scotia and the Whitecaps REX program, where she represented Team Atlantic at national combines.
“I’m so happy to be continuing my soccer career with the Axewomen,” McKinnon said. “I feel like it is a great fit to help me continue my development as a player and allow me to contribute to a great program. I’ve always wanted to go to Acadia and am now so excited to be starting my next chapter in the kinesiology program next year.”
Axewomen head coach Amit Batra praised McKinnon for her composure, athleticism and contributions on and off the field.
“Hannah plays with maturity beyond her youth experience,” Batra said. “Her composure on the ball couples well with her ability to track down the opponent, intercept opposing attacks, and win balls with her aerial ability and athleticism.
“Off the field, we’re focused on finding mature student-athletes who will contribute and excel off the field in our community and in the classroom, and Hannah fits that bill exactly. She will add to an already strong group of community-centred high-performance athletes.”
The Axewomen are eager to welcome McKinnon as they prepare for the upcoming season.
