Adams wins U SPORTS Student-Athlete Community Service Award
WOLFVILLE, N.S. — Acadia Axewomen defender Leah Adams has been named the 2025 U SPORTS Student-Athlete Community Service Award winner, capping a season in which she first captured the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) honour.
A fifth-year from Truro, N.S., Adams started and played the full 90 minutes in all 12 conference matches this season. She was player of the game in a 4-0 win over Moncton on Sept. 12, scoring twice from the back line. Earlier today, she was also named an AUS first-team all-star, her third straight all-star selection after second-team nods in 2023 and 2024.
Adams pairs on-field excellence with outstanding academic achievement. A five-time U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian, she completed a Bachelor of Kinesiology, a Bachelor of Education, and is currently taking graduate-level courses.
Her impact in the community is extensive. Adams has devoted hundreds of volunteer hours to KinderSkills, AWAKE, and SMILE, mentoring children and youth of all abilities through inclusive physical activity and sport. Beyond campus, she has coached community teams, supported adaptive sport programs, and organized major initiatives such as a Soccer Baseball Tournament that raised $4,800 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
“Of the over 2,000 students I have taught and hundreds of athletes I have coached over the past 23 years, Leah is without question the most extraordinary, kind, giving, modest, and well-rounded student I have ever taught or coached,” said long-time women’s soccer assistant coach and Acadia Kinesiology professor Scott Landry.
Also recognized nationally, first-year Axewomen midfielder Hannah Richardson-McKinnon was named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team after earlier earning a place on the AUS All-Rookie Team.
With today’s national recognition, Adams follows her AUS award by earning the top community service honour in Canadian university women’s soccer, underscoring her leadership at Acadia.
